Skills
The profile every skill reads first.
Every skill prompt has two halves: the company, and you. The company half comes from the record. The “who's buying” half comes from your Buyer Profile.
What it's for #
The same company reads completely differently depending on who is looking at it. A buyer chasing steady operational cash flow and a buyer financial-engineering a roll-up should get two different answers from the same Earnings Quality report — not because the numbers changed, but because what makes a number good depends on what you're trying to do with the company.
Without a profile on file, there's no “you” for a skill to reason about, so nothing runs.
The minimum that unlocks AI #
Two things: your display name, and at least one of your background, your thesis, or a target range (SDE, revenue, or max purchase price). That's the whole gate — nothing else on the profile is required before a skill will run. Ask a connected AI to run a skill before that exists, and this is exactly what it sees back:
The exact message a connected AI sees
“AI prompts are locked until a Buyer Profile exists. In the app, go to Settings → Buyer Profile and save your display name plus at least one of: your background, your thesis, or a target range (SDE, revenue, or max purchase price). Then retry this tool.”
What each field changes about the output #
Past the minimum, each field you fill in changes what a skill actually writes, not just whether it can run:
Background
Frames the analysis around operational fit — whether you're equipped to run this specific business day to day, given what you've actually done before.
Thesis
Frames the analysis around strategic fit — whether this company advances the kind of acquisition you're actually trying to make, not acquisitions in general.
Target range
Anchors every screen and valuation to your own band — SDE, revenue, or max purchase price — instead of a generic market read that ignores what you can actually spend.
Why before the first analysis, not after #
A skill reads your profile at the moment it runs, so an analysis written against an empty or half-filled profile isn't wrong exactly — it's generic, framed around nobody in particular. The gate exists so that the two minutes happen before your first report instead of after you've already read one that didn't know who you were.
Set it now #
Two minutes, once, in the app: Settings → Buyer Profile. Everything above updates automatically to reflect the buyer doing the looking, not just the record being looked at.
